Source First

Source-based answers about Latter-day Saint history

Short, careful answers to common historical questions. Each answer is tied to original sources, and uncertainty is marked rather than hidden.

Source First is a small, independent project. It does not ask readers to trust a summary on its own. Every published answer points to the original documents it rests on, so you can open the source and check the claim yourself.

Answers are prepared with the help of language models, but they are not published on the model’s word. A separate automated check re-reads the stored source text, verifies that quoted passages are actually present, and confirms that every statement rests on a checked claim. Content that does not pass stays unpublished.

No published answers yet

No answer has passed the automated source check yet, so nothing is published here. This is an honest empty state, not a placeholder presented as finished research. Answers will appear in this list as soon as one is checked and published.

How an answer is checked

The original source is retrieved and stored with its retrieval time and a checksum. Proposed claims are extracted together with the exact passage they rely on. Each quoted passage is compared with the stored text. A separate critical pass then reviews the draft against the sources instead of accepting the draft’s own conclusions.

Facts, interpretation and uncertainty are kept apart. If a source changes or a claim is revised, the earlier check no longer applies and the answer must be checked again before it can be published.
